Britains most romantic hotel!

LOVED up couples are making a beeline to a Lake District guesthouse which is gaining a romantic reputation as the perfect place to propose. An average of four suitors a week are popping the question at the Windermere Suites, which last year was voted the country’s Funkiest B&B at the AA awards. Owner Colin Monk recorded how many people agreed to wed during this summer, with his record standing at nine couples proposing during one week. He says that the oversize baths and showers, king size designer beds and the various ‘romantic’ and ‘naughty’ packages, containing items such as a bottle of champagne, rose petals, a tickling feather and massaging body butter, are helping love to flourish at the New Road guesthouse. And Mr Monk is becoming quite the expert at predicting when a proposal will take place. He said: “The staff are often asked for some special touches, such as the romantic pack, to accompany breakfast or to be waiting for them in the room when they return from a day out. “This is often the tell-tale sign that a couple is about to take the plunge. “One guest asked if we could hide the engagement ring in a bowl of chocolate covered strawberries. "We did hesitate but he assured us that if he would not hold us responsible if she choked! “We’ve designed the suites very much with the couple, and romance, in mind. "Everything is geared towards setting the scene and sharing.” He says that the £1.6million design has seen an 18 per cent increase in business this year compared to 2009. Helen Jones and her fiance Gerry, from London, stayed two nights at the guesthouse in October. He hid the ring in a glass of champagne, and the couple now intend to get married in the summer. She said: “It was the most romantic thing to ever happen in my life.”
